One of the challenges of VR was choosing the right platform for development. We chose Unity because of the integrated support from Oculus for the Samsung Gear VR.
We opted for Mobile VR as we wanted our project to be portable and easy to set up and share.
We thought it would be cool to bring back some old friends from previous projects. Not only did this save a lot of time by re-using assets, it was also great to experience these characters in VR - it gave us a whole new perspective on our creations.
VR gives you great opportunities for creating atmosphere, not just with visuals but also with sound. We had a lot of fun experimenting with audio attached to distant objects, using 3D spatial sound you can hear these floating islands looming over the valley. There are a number of different audio cues to attract the viewer to points of interest.
